Legend tells of a ghost that haunts Conversano Castle. This ghost is the inspiration for Domenico Modugno's song, Il vecchio Frack from 1955. Modugno's mother was from Conversano and the story of this nobleman was told to him by his mother. This story impressed him so much to dedicate the successful lyrics to him. This ghost is said to be the one of Prince Raimondo Lanza di Trabia who fell from the window of the Hotel Eden in Rome the year before, dressed in frack, and who had lived in the Conversano residence which Modugno's mother used to tell scary stories. The ghost according to legend appears every night at midnight dressed in medieval clothes wandering the halls of the castle.

Se vieni da queste parti è importante sapere che Il Polo Museale “MUSeCo” della Città è una istituzione importante per conoscere sotto diversi aspetti le tradizioni, l’arte, la storia, inoltre offre ai visitatori una moltitudine di spunti per la conoscenza di aspetti artistici e culturali e fornisce l’occasione per apprezzare il pregiato patrimonio artistico racchiuso nelle chiese della città (Basilica Cattedrale S. Maria Assunta, S. Benedetto, S. Cosma, Carmine, S. Maria dell’Isola) e del “centro storico” cittadino, colmo di tanti angoli caratteristici e di pregevoli elementi architettonici carichi di memorie.

Il Polo Museale MUSeCo di Conversano, si articola oggi in varie Sezioni: la Pinacoteca “Paolo Finoglio” nel Castello di Conversano, dove è conservato l’autoritratto del pittore napoletano, il Museo del territorio suddiviso nelle sezioni “Storia della città” “Bande Musicali” e “Moda e Costume” anch'esso nel Castello di Conversano.

La Pinacoteca “Francesco Netti” è sempre all'interno del Castello come il Museo di Arte moderna e contemporanea che però assieme al “Museo Archeologico” hanno opere nel Monastero di San Benedetto dove è anche possibile ammirare in quest'ultimo la Porta dei Cento Occhi.

One of the most striking ways to get to know the area of Conversano is to be guided on a bicycle or hiking tour among the Rural Chapels, la Gravina di Monsignore and the "lakes" (i.e., the 11 karst sinkholes) that few people know about.
